Here’s a look into Bubber Couture – one of IWS’s prime vendors for customized bridal couture.
Finding the right outfit for your wedding is a terribly trying task, but twins Aanchal & Sanjana Bubber are working at making it a much easier process. They started Bubber Couture, an exclusive Indian couture brand for men and women in April 2011 with the idea of providing customized garments with a unique aesthetic and exquisite workmanship. Bubber Couture is one of the vendors on our website, and we bring you excerpts from an exclusive interview with them to help give you an insight into their label and its work.
Aanchal and Sanjana were fascinated with art from a very early age, and as they grew up they moved on from painting and craft to the art of making garments. After high school they attended an Apparel Manufacturing & Design course at S.N.D.T. University, followed by a highly coveted job with renowned menswear designer Arjun Khanna. Two years after that, Bubber Couture was born -“Living in a society where clients know exactly what they want, we realized that it was near impossible to find well-priced, well-finished, designer-grade couture. Therefore, we decided to start our label.”
Jade by Monica & Karishma came into being in October 2008, and has since gone on to become one of the premier brands in exclusive bridal couture in India. Monica & Karishma have successfully combined their unique sensibilities to represent traditional Indian handicrafts in refreshing new ways for the modern Indian woman. Their collections are greatly influenced by their personalities and have a global appeal as well, which stems from their experience in the international fashion circuit.collection.
Tarun Tahiliani has been in the Indian fashion industry since 1990, and has since gone on to become a brand to be reckoned with. His couture creations are known for their obvious Indian heritage as well as their global appeal through the use of international fabrics and techniques. Thus, the brand represents a perfect combination of Modern India, clothes that are Indian but evolving with the changing times.
Tarun’s most recent collection at Lakme Fashion Week 2014 consisted of modernised Indian silhouettes like draped dhoti pants, kaftans, dhoti saris, kalidaars as well as saris, lehenga-cholis and kurtas for women. The men were seen in sherwanis and salwar-kurtas.
Fashion Featurette – Sonaakshi Raaj
Sonaakshi Raaj, just about two years into the business is fast gaining popularity in Bollywood with her exotic outfits. Previously the head assistant designer with Manish Malhotra, she now has her own eponymous label that specializes in women’s wear. Her clothes are said to be timeless and combine strong tailoring with drapery to produce flattering silhouettes.
Shyamal & Bhumika Shodhan, the only designer couple in this series of fashion featurettes started off at Lakme Fashion Week 2006. Since then, they have gone on to become one of the most sought after labels for bridal couture. They are known for their use of artisan techniques, embroidery and hand-woven fabrics, and their bridal wear is said to be minimalistic yet luxurious.
